Biography

Patrice Michaels is distinguished by vocal virtuosity and an eclectic musical personality. She receives consistent critical acclaim for her recordings on Albany, Amadis, Cedille, Neos, and Decca labels. Her performances have included appearances with the Shanghai, Czech National, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Minnesota Orchestras, as well as New York’s Concert Royal and Chicago’s Music Baroque. She debuted with the Cleveland Opera in Fidelio and performed Candide with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Her recitals include the Festival of Contemporary Music in Havana and performances at the Supreme Court and Harvard University’s Schubert Club. Patrice's compositional interests center on works with words, including incidental music for Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream and a one-act opera based on Euripides’ Trojan Women. She holds memberships in various professional organizations and has directed vocal studies at the University of Chicago. Currently, she is in her fifth year of teaching in the Voice & Opera program at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University.
