Pat Jackson Allen joined the faculty of Yale School of Nursing in the Spring of 2003 to teach the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Specialty. Prior to coming to Yale, she taught at the University of California, San Francisco, serving as the director of the Advanced Practice Pediatric Nursing Program for ten years. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Connecticut and completed her training at Yale New Haven Hospital, working in the adolescent unit upon graduation. Her professional scholarship primarily focuses on the primary care needs of children with chronic health conditions. She co-edits a major textbook, "Primary Care of the Child with Chronic Condition," now in its fifth edition published in 2010. Her current research interests involve the role development of advanced practice functions among recent pediatric nurse practitioner graduates, particularly tracking the expansion of practice in specialty care, both inpatient and outpatient. Additionally, Pat Jackson Allen has taught extensively about the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner role in countries such as Britain, China, Japan, and the Philippines. For the past four years, she has led a traditional Chinese Medicine course for Yale School of Nursing students at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong.
