Biography

Patricia M. Barkaskas is an Associate Professor at the Peter Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where her work examines the intersections of justice and law, with a strong emphasis on the experiences of Indigenous peoples. Her research focuses on Indigenous laws, access to justice for Indigenous peoples, and the decolonization and indigenization of legal education through the use of Indigenous pedagogies. Robert Arscott Chair at the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan, and served as the Academic Director for Indigenous Legal Studies and for the Indigenous Community Legal Clinic at Allard Law. Her extensive legal practice includes administrative, civil, class action, criminal, child protection, family, and prison law. Patricia holds a Master of Arts in History with a focus on Indigenous histories of North America and a Juris Doctor with a specialization in Law and Social Justice from the University of British Columbia.
