Biography

Patricia Cassano is the Alan D. Mathios Professor in the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology. She has also served as Interim Director and Director of the Division of Nutritional Sciences. With a strong background in Epidemiology, having received her MPH from Columbia University and her Ph.D. from the University of Washington, Dr. Cassano has focused her research on the prevention of chronic lung diseases through dietary and genetic risk factors. Her methodological expertise includes the design and analysis of analytical epidemiological studies and long-term prospective cohort studies incorporating biomarker data. Over the years, her research group has investigated the role of nutrition in lung phenotypes and has led significant studies such as the Respiratory Ancillary Study to the Selenium and Vitamin E Cancer Prevention Trial. She also plays a key role as the Director of Cornell's Cochrane Network and collaborates with the World Health Organization. Dr. Cassano is deeply involved in training future researchers through annual workshops and directs courses in Epidemiology and grant writing for graduate students at Weill Cornell Medical College. Her ongoing research includes developing algorithms for predicting dietary responses and exploring the interaction between genes and nutrients on pulmonary function.
