Biography

Patricia Conrod is a researcher at CHU Sainte-Justine in Montreal. Her research focuses on biological, personal, and cognitive risk factors associated with the development and maintenance of substance use disorders, as well as factors related to the comorbidity of addictive behaviors and other mental health issues. In her experimental research, she is interested in identifying reinforcement factors that drive individuals towards the use of addictive substances. Recently, her work has led to the development of novel therapeutic and preventive approaches targeting personal risk factors and the motivational determinants underlying substance use among specific subgroups of substance users. From 2005 to 2010, Patricia was a member of the ethics committee for research at King's College London and served as an associate editor for the journal Current Drug Abuse Reviews. She is a consultant for the UN and the European Commission on prevention and treatment of alcoholism and addiction, and has authored numerous publications on these topics. She is also the Director of the Strategy in Neurosciences and Mental Health (SENSUM) at the University of Montreal, co-director of the Quebec Network on Suicide, Mood Disorders, and Associated Disorders, and co-director of the IMAGINE Center at CR CHU Ste-Justine.
