Patricia Ann D'Amore is the Charles L. Schepens Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard University. Her research interests center on vascular development and pathology, particularly investigating the role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in adult vascular and non-vascular cells. The D'Amore laboratory has examined the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration. Current projects include understanding the molecular basis for blood vessel stabilization and the examination of Notch signaling's effects on microvasculature stabilization in the context of diabetes. Other ongoing projects aim to elucidate mechanisms that mediate pericyte stabilization in capillaries and the contribution of inflammation to the pathogenesis of age-related macular degeneration by studying the role of the inflammasome in retinal pigment epithelium.
