Dr. Patricia Dold

Biography

Dr. Patricia Dold is an Associate Professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her research centers on representations of women in Hindu Sanskrit texts, particularly those relating to goddess-centered narratives associated with the Kamakhya temple pilgrimage site in Guwahati, Assam. She is currently working on a monograph based on the Mahābhāgavata Purāṇa, a text that emphasizes goddess-centric perspectives from the Northeast South Asian subcontinent. Dold has been involved in research on the influence of sexual abuse in religious institutions and has incorporated this subject into her teaching. Throughout her tenure, she has offered specialized graduate courses focused on Sanskrit epics, Tantra, women's roles in Hinduism, and post-colonial interpretations of South Asian religions. Additionally, she has developed an online course for undergraduate students. Dold has supervised various M.A. theses on topics ranging from the understanding of widowhood in the St. John's Hindu community to the ecological care found within Hindu traditions. Her publications further elaborate on these themes, contributing to important discussions in the field of religious studies, feminist theory, and Hindu practices.
