Biography

Patricia Hamilton-Solum is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas School of Nursing at Austin, where she has taught students in clinical nursing practice and multidisciplinary inter-professional collaborative practice education since 2008. She has professional nursing practice experience that includes acute care clinical quality improvement, community childbirth preparation, lactation consultant parent education, and NICU nursing. Her passion for perinatal health and lactation support began as a community clinic volunteer educator and continued as a NICU nurse. Dr. Hamilton-Solum's dissertation work focuses on breastfeeding for mothers employed at home, and she participates in multiple evidence-based projects related to perinatal and newborn global health. She has held the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification since 2013 and is an active member of the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA) as well as the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN). Her work in international perinatal and newborn health education includes global health classroom projects at UT Austin.
