Dr. Patricia Hurn

Biography

Patricia D. Hurn is a Professor and Dean at the University of Michigan School of Nursing. With a distinguished career, she is internationally recognized for her extensive research on the cellular and molecular basis of gender differences in response to experimental brain injury. Dr. Hurn has served as the principal investigator on research grants totaling over $20 million and has collaborated on numerous projects that focus on innovative approaches in bio-health research and scientific education. Her interdisciplinary research lab conducts biomedical studies that have practical implications for patient care. Prior to her tenure at the University of Michigan, Dr. Hurn held significant roles, including Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation at the University of Texas System. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Fellow designation from the American Academy of Nursing in 2017 and the Thomas Willis Award for Basic Science from the American Stroke Association in 2014. Dr. Hurn holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins University, an MN from the University of Washington, and a BSN from the University of Florida.
