Dr. Patricia Johnson

Biography

Patricia J. Johnson is a prominent scholar in Classical Studies with a focus on Latin poetry, particularly the works of Ovid and Catullus. She has earned her BA in History and MA in Classics from Cornell University, followed by a PhD in Classics from the University of Southern California. Her scholarly work includes her book, 'Ovid Exile: Art, Punishment, Metamorphoses,' which investigates the intersection of Ovid’s metamorphoses and contemporary artistic expression. Johnson has also contributed to the academic community as an associate dean in the humanities at the College of Arts and Sciences at Boston University. Her teaching portfolio encompasses a range of undergraduate and graduate-level seminars on Latin poetry, as well as broader courses on Roman civilization and the role of women in the ancient world. Her ongoing research examines Renaissance interpretations of Ovid and the cultural implications of artistic representation during that era, particularly concerning themes of freedom and censorship.
