Patricia Longmuir is a senior scientist at the Children’s Hospital Eastern Ontario Research Institute. Her research interests focus on promoting physical activity among children with medical conditions and disabilities, and the use of physical activity to prevent and/or treat morbidity. Professor Longmuir has conducted extensive research on the impact of various interventions aimed at increasing physical activity in children with heart defects and cystic fibrosis. She completed her PhD in Medical Sciences with a focus on pediatric cardiology exercise at the University of Toronto in 2010, and has published more than 70 papers and six book chapters in peer-reviewed literature. In addition, she has delivered 180 scholarly conference presentations and over 80 invited keynote addresses. Longmuir became a registered kinesiologist with the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario in 2014 and is currently accepting new students for thesis supervision. Her work has significantly contributed to understanding the role of physical activity in enhancing the quality of life for children with medical challenges.
