Biography

Patricia Mundelius is a doctoral candidate in Social Anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, funded by the Wellcome Trust. Her academic background includes a B.A. and M.A., with research conducted at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she examined the impacts of health tourism and the commercialization of Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan medical) practices. Patricia's experiences as a peer tutor, lecturer, and research fellow at the Academic Writing Centre have equipped her with extensive skills in supporting students with their academic writing process. Her PhD research explores transformations in Sowa Rigpa practices, identities, and representations in transnational contexts, involving ethnographic fieldwork across multiple locations, including Nepal and India, as well as European countries. She investigates the nuances of transnational healing travels and the online practices surrounding small-scale business collaborations between South Asian practitioners and European companies, critically questioning the possibilities and limitations of Sowa Rigpa practices across borders. Patricia is supervised by Professor Ian Harper and Dr. Jeevan Sharma.
