Biography

Patricia Samson joined the Faculty of Social Work in 2016, bringing with her 28 years of social work practice experience. She works in both direct and indirect social work contexts, actively involved in areas such as domestic violence, justice support, correctional services, mental health, and community-based healthcare. Patricia teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses related to social policy, social justice, social welfare, organizational practice, and field education. Her research interests focus on advancing social work education in areas of teaching and learning, mental health and addictions, and healthcare. She is the Principal Investigator for a SSHRC-IDG study that investigates critical thinking and transformative learning in field instructors supporting students' transition into professional practice. Additionally, she leads projects that explore the perceptions of social work professionalism within the workforce and engage stakeholders in promoting child and youth mental health initiatives.
