Biography

Patricia H. Thornton is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Texas A&M University and a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Society and Organizations at HEC Paris. She has previously held positions at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and the Sociology Department, as well as Stanford University. In addition, she has served as a visiting distinguished professor at HEC Paris and a visiting scholar at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. Dr. Thornton's research focuses on how institutions and organizations affect behavioral strategies within domains of innovation and entrepreneurship, inclusiveness, and diversity. She has extensively published on institutional logics and their impact on individual and organizational behavior. Collaborating with research colleagues William Ocasio and Michael Lounsbury, she has developed a key research program based on the institutional logics perspective, spanning management and the social sciences. Additionally, she was instrumental in developing an entrepreneurship curriculum at Duke University and an interdisciplinary minor in innovation and entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University.
