Biography

Patricia Wittkopp is an Arthur F. Thurnau Professor and a Deborah E. Goldberg Distinguished University Professor at the University of Michigan, where she leads research in the field of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB). Dr. Wittkopp holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her research primarily focuses on identifying genetic changes that are responsible for phenotypic differences between species and understanding how these changes impact development. She is particularly interested in the molecular mechanisms that regulate gene expression and evolutionary processes. Her current research examines patterns of regulatory evolution on a genomic scale and investigates specific genetic changes that contribute to pigmentation evolution in Drosophila. Using techniques from molecular, developmental, and quantitative genetics, she combines various methodologies to explore these complex biological questions.
