Biography

Patricia Wu is an interdisciplinary designer, researcher, and educator based at the Edinburgh College of Art. Her practice operates at the intersection of fashion, computational design, and data to investigate new methodologies for thinking about design in response to global issues affecting the planet. Patricia holds a practice-based PhD in Design from the University of Edinburgh, which she completed in 2021. Her dissertation, titled 'An Expanded Fashion Practice Interfacing Anthropocene', delves into the relationship between fashion narratives and environmental data through various multi-modal works, including 3D printed wearables and generative installations. Patricia has exhibited her work internationally at notable events and venues such as Milan Design Week, the Berlin Fashion Film Festival, and the British Museum. She has contributed significantly to peer-reviewed journals and conferences in fashion and design. Before her current role, she taught in the MA/MSc Design Informatics program and developed a range of courses within the School of Design. Her research interests encompass Textiles as a medium for data physicalization, subversive approaches to technology, and human-machine collaboration.
