Biography

Dr. Patrick Allard's main focus is to understand how environmental exposures alter the function of the germline and consequently affect reproduction. His research addresses these questions using the model system, Caenorhabditis elegans. The genetic tools available for this nematode allow for the mechanistic dissection of environmentally disrupted germline pathways and facilitate a comprehensive interrogation of the effects of the chemical environment on reproduction. Dr. Allard is also interested in understanding the process of transferring and transforming information from laboratory research to policy implementation. For example, he explores how research findings move beyond the confines of the laboratory to inform wider societal practices. He completed post-doctoral fellowships at Harvard Medical School under Dr. Monica Colaiacovo and Dr. Clifford Tabin, and earned his Ph.D. from McGill University in the laboratory of Dr. Hugh Clarke.
