Biography

Patrick Barth is an Associate Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) specializing in the interface of biophysics, chemistry, and cell biology. He received training in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from the University of Paris, École Normale Supérieure. His doctoral research focused on structure/function studies of membrane proteins at the Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives in Saclay, France. Following his PhD, he engaged in postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, developing computational tools for protein electrostatics and peptide inhibitor design under Tom Alber. He furthered his research at the University of Washington, contributing to the Rosetta software for membrane protein structure prediction. Barth's research group, the Laboratory of Protein Cell Engineering, aims to design proteins with novel biosensing capabilities and engineered cellular responses for therapeutic applications. His ongoing projects include modeling membrane protein interactions, reprogramming signaling in synthetic biology, and applying genetic variations in cancer medicine.
