Biography

Professor Patrick Bayer is the Research Director at the Division of Political and International Studies within the Global Sustainable Development theme at the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre (ARC). His research specializes in political economy and focuses on international cooperation, environmental regulation, and climate politics. Professor Bayer investigates the political incentives that influence the responses of governments, firms, and individuals to climate change and the global energy transition. His current research analyzes the politics of carbon markets and corporate decarbonisation strategies, as well as the distributional impacts of climate policy. He leads an ESRC-funded project on international climate cooperation and has received numerous grants for his work on climate commitments and the effectiveness of carbon markets in Europe. In addition to his research activities, he serves as an Associate Deputy Editor for the journal Climatic Change and is involved in various executive committees and grant advisory boards.
