Biography

Patrick Cahan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology & Genetics. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he gained research experience in Information Retrieval systems. His interest in Computational Biology developed while he was a programmer in Chile, which led him to pursue an M.S. in Genomics and Bioinformatics at George Washington University, followed by a Ph.D. in Computational Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. During his doctoral studies, he investigated the impact of DNA copy number variation on gene expression in the lab of Dr. Tim Graubert. Cahan completed his postdoctoral work in the lab of Dr. George Daley at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, focusing on the development and experimental validation of computational methods to assess and improve engineered cells, culminating in research on directed differentiation of pluripotent stem cells.
