Biography

Patrick Derksen obtained his PhD in the Department of Pathology at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 2003. After graduation, he moved to the Netherlands Cancer Institute to study the consequences of cell-cell adhesion in breast cancer development and progression. He developed mouse models for human invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) and conditional mammary-specific knockout E-cadherin p53. In 2005, he was awarded an independent researcher grant from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO-VENI). In 2007, he joined the Medical Oncology department as an independent researcher and head of the UMCU Mouse Cancer Clinic. He received the NWO-VIDI award in 2008. By 2010, he attained a tenured position as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology. His research group aims to combine expertise on adhesion molecules and cell signaling with clinically relevant mouse models to study the downstream effectors involved in cancer progression.
