Biography

Dr. Patrick Dunae joined the History Department at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in 1990, focusing on British and Canadian history. He developed upper-level courses on 19th and 20th century British Columbia, Public History, and the History of Education and Childhood in Canada. After retiring from his teaching position in 2009, he remained affiliated with the department as an Honorary Research Associate and since 2015, as Professor Emeritus. In addition, he serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of History at the University of Victoria. Dunae has engaged actively with historical communities, serving as director and past president of the Friends of the British Columbia Archives Society, and is currently president of the Vancouver Island Local History Society, which manages Point Ellice House Museum and Gardens, a national historic site. He is also the principal of Clio Media, focusing on historical research and consulting.
