Biography

Patrick Eugster joined the Università della Svizzera italiana as a full professor in computer science in 2017, co-founding the Computer Systems Institute. Before that, he was a regular faculty member at Purdue University from 2005 to 2016 and at Technische Universität Darmstadt from 2014 to 2017. He holds a Master’s degree (1998) and a Ph.D. (2001) from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Patrick is interested in aspects of distributed systems, particularly the intersections of networks, programming languages, and security. He has co-authored 160 scientific articles on these topics and secured research funding from several agencies, including the NSF CAREER in 2007, DARPA Computer Science Study Group in 2011, and ERC Consolidator in 2014, as well as from companies like Google and Facebook. He served as the program chair for ACM OOPSLA in 2015 and returned as an associate chair in 2023.
