Patrick Fulton joined the faculty of Cornell’s Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences in January 2019. As an Associate Professor and Croll Sesquicentennial Fellow, his research interests encompass hydrologic thermal processes and fault zone processes, particularly how they control fault slip behavior and provide insightful signatures in fault rocks. Prior to his position at Cornell, Fulton gained valuable experience during postdoctoral appointments in Oregon and Texas, and worked as a research scientist in California. He began his academic career at Texas A&M in 2016, where he taught for multiple years. Fulton employs observation, quantitative analysis, and numerical modeling to study heat and fluid dynamics in fault zones. His work integrates hydrogeology, thermal geophysics, geomechanics, with applications in earthquake physics, tectonic processes, and subsurface heat and fluid transport.
