Biography

Patrick Hamel holds a Doctorate in Medicine from Laval University. He completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Université de Montréal and has undergone fellowships in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at the University of Toronto, as well as in Glaucoma at the Université de Montréal. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Université de Montréal, specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, pediatric glaucoma, retinoblastoma, and pediatric cataracts. In addition to his academic role, he is the Head of the Ophthalmology Department at the CHU Sainte-Justine and serves as the Assistant Dean for Postdoctoral Medical Education. Hamel has received multiple awards for his contributions to medical education, notably the Excellence Award from the Canadian Association for Medical Education in 2015 and 2016.
