Biography

Patrick Hughes is an Associate Professor at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin, where he serves as the Head of the Brass, Woodwinds & Percussion Division and directs the award-winning UT Horn Choir. Praised by the Dallas Morning News as 'a dream soloist' with a 'warm honeyed' tone, Hughes has performed internationally, including notable engagements for the Asian premiere of Kazimierz Machala’s Concerto for Horn, Winds, and Percussion in Bangkok. An active performer and educator, he plays with La Follia Austin Baroque and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra and regularly appears with major ensembles like the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the San Antonio Symphony. Hughes is also a frequent clinician and guest artist with teaching and performance engagements in Australia, China, Taiwan, and the United States. Additionally, he is a composer and arranger with works published by BrownWood Publishing, and his compositions have premiered at International Horn Symposia. He is set to release an upcoming album titled Crossroads, featuring horn, piano, and electronica, in October 2025. Hughes plays a custom Patterson Horn.
