Biography

Patrick Jagoda is William Rainey Harper Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Chicago, where he also serves as co-editor of the interdisciplinary journal Critical Inquiry and Director of the Media Arts and Design program. He specializes in digital media studies, game studies and design, critical theory, and American literature and culture from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Jagoda is a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and is known for his innovative work in transmedia storytelling and speculative design, as well as his contributions to the development of game studies and game design at the University of Chicago. His publications include 'Network Aesthetics' (University of Chicago Press, 2016), 'Game Worlds' (MIT Press, 2016), and 'Experimental Games: Critique, Play, Design in the Age of Gamification' (University of Chicago Press, 2020). Additionally, he has contributed to developing several digital media labs at the university, including Weston Game Lab and Fourcast Lab. His artistic works often explore critical themes in sociopolitical contexts, including projects that engage with community storytelling and public health.
