Dr. Patrick James

Biography

Patrick James is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern California, specializing in international relations, with a focus on foreign policy analysis, security studies, ethnopolitics, and Canadian politics. He has held various roles in academia and has made significant contributions to the fields of comparative politics and empirical methods. James is the author and editor of over 30 books and 150 articles, and his scholarly work has been recognized with numerous awards, such as the Gold Chalk Award for graduate mentorship. He obtained his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Maryland in 1984. His recent research interests include analyzing the causes and consequences of conflict and studying domestic politics in Canada, particularly the constitutional dilemmas faced by the country. James has also served as the Director of the Center for International Studies at USC and has been actively involved in professional organizations related to Canadian studies and international relations, contributing to the advancement of scholarship in these areas through various editorial and leadership roles.
