Biography

Patrick Kaufmann is a Professor Emeritus in Marketing at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. He joined the faculty in September 1998 and served as Chair of the Marketing Department from 2001 to 2012. With a distinguished academic career, Kaufmann earned his BA in Economics from Georgetown University in 1968, followed by a JD from Boston College Law School in 1974, an MBA from Wharton in 1980, and a Ph.D. in Marketing from Northwestern University in 1985. His previous appointments include roles as an Assistant Professor at Harvard Business School from 1985 to 1991 and as an Associate Professor at Georgia State University from 1991 to 1998. His research encompasses franchising, distribution channels, and public policy, with published articles in notable journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, and the Journal of Retailing. Kaufmann has served on the editorial boards of various academic journals and is a member of the International Society of Franchising, where he held leadership positions from 1992 to 2014, including serving as chair from 1992 to 2010.
