Born in Montreal, Canada, Patrick Kearney discovered classical guitar in his early life, winning a national competition in Ottawa at the age of ten. He pursued studies first under Daniel Boyer and Jacques Joubert at Vanier College. Convinced that music was his true calling, Patrick completed a Superior Diploma in Performance at the École Normale de Musique de Paris with the highest honors under the direction of Rafaël Andia and Alberto Ponce. Returning from France in 1993, Patrick began a professional career as an international competitor and touring artist, winning top prizes in international competitions. He has performed concerts and conducted master classes in numerous tours across Europe, the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Patrick has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de l’Îsle, Shenandoah University Orchestra, and Montreal’s Musici. In 1997, he completed his Master’s Degree under the guidance of Peter McCutcheon. His contributions to the world of art music include commissioning and premiering works by contemporary composers and releasing four guitar albums, with a fifth on the way. Mr. Kearney teaches guitar at McGill University, Concordia University, and Vanier College, and is the founder and director of the Montreal International Classical Guitar Festival and Competition.
