Patrick Kerstein is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University and a member of the Purdue Institute for Integrative Neuroscience. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Ripon College and earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Vollum Institute at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. His research focuses on utilizing advanced mouse genetic techniques to study the developmental processes that guide neuronal cell fate and connectivity within the visual nervous system. The goals of the Kerstein Lab include identifying the genetic and molecular factors that define neuronal cell types and guide neuron-specific connectivity in the visual system, as well as examining gene-environment interactions that disrupt normal nervous system development, particularly related to ocular toxicant exposure.
