Biography

Patrick C. Lewis received his BA in Comparative Literature from Cornell University in 2009, an MA in Cultural Studies from Sabanci University, and his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 2020. Before joining the faculty at Concordia University, he taught at the University of Chicago from 2020 to 2022 and at the University of Mississippi from 2022 to 2023. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fulbright Fellow in Turkey for 2023-2024. His research has been supported by several fellowships, including the Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowships Program, Fulbright-Hays DDRA Fellowship, and the NAEd/Spencer Dissertation Fellowship. His scholarly work focuses on the politics of language in Turkey and North Kurdistan, particularly the role of state policy and language activism in shaping media representations and language use. He is currently exploring the connections between higher education, language policy, and transnational youth migration from Turkey to North America. Moreover, his interests include language semiotics and the ways language serves as a medium for social value.
