Biography

Patrick Lynett, born in New York City, earned his doctoral degree in Civil Engineering from Cornell University, where he also obtained his master's and bachelor's degrees. After completing his Ph.D. thesis in 2002, he started his academic career as an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University. He has actively participated in critical research efforts, including the 2005 International Tsunami Survey Team in Sri Lanka and the Hurricane Katrina Coastal Impacts Survey Team sponsored by the ASCE. His work often focuses on coastal processes, nearshore circulations, wave evolution, sediment transport, and the assessment of coastal hazards such as hurricanes and tsunamis. He has received numerous grants and awards for his contributions to understanding these phenomena. He has also been recognized for his public service and academic contributions with awards such as the Guggenheim Fellowship in 2010 and several honors from ASCE for engineering excellence. Through his investigations, Lynett combines numerical modeling, controlled experiments, and field observations to advance knowledge in coastal engineering and environmental sustainability.
