Dr. Patrick Mcguinness

Biography

Patrick McGuinness is a Professor of French and Comparative Literature at St Anne's College, University of Oxford. His research interests encompass 19th, 20th, and 21st century French literature, cultural politics with a focus on poetry and theatre, as well as French and Belgian symbolism. He has explored various themes within Belgian literature and Anglo-American modernism, particularly in relation to modern poetry and contemporary French poetry. McGuinness is also engaged in translation studies and is a founding member of the Oxford Comparative Criticism and Translation initiative. His editorial work includes contributions to significant literary series and he is preparing several upcoming scholarly works. His teaching covers a broad spectrum of topics in modern literature, including symbolism, decadence, and European modernism. He has authored numerous essays and books, with a particular emphasis on modernism and literary politics, and has received various accolades for his contributions to the field.
