Biography

Patrick O’Byrne is a Full Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa. His research and clinical work as a nurse practitioner focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of sexually transmitted infections, particularly HIV. Dr. O’Byrne's contributions include providing HIV medications and prevention strategies (known as pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis), as well as delivering culturally sensitive nursing services to marginalized populations affected by sexually transmitted infections and HIV. He holds the OHTN Research Chair in Public Health and HIV Prevention and is the principal investigator of the GetaKit Study, a project that offers free at-home HIV self-testing throughout Canada. His research interests encompass public health nursing, marginalized populations, sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, HIV prevention, critical theory, politics, and nursing.
