Dr. Patrick Selmi

Biography

Patrick Selmi is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of Windsor, with a focus on social work and social welfare history. He has previously taught at Syracuse University and the University of South Carolina. His research interests encompass housing policy, community organizing development, poverty, inequality, social theory, and cross-national comparisons of social welfare policy and practice. Dr. Selmi has published articles in leading scholarly journals, including the Social Service Review, and is currently working on a book manuscript that analyzes the social, political, and economic theories that have influenced the reformist mission of social work over the past century. He has also served as Vice President of the Social Welfare History Group and has been involved with the Council on Social Work Education and the Association for Community Organization and Social Administration. His practical experience includes roles as a school social worker in Minnesota and working with a Native American shelter for abused and homeless youth.
