Patsy Soon is a clinical academic breast surgeon and a postdoctoral breast cancer researcher. She obtained her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2003 after completing two post-fellowship training years at St George Hospital in Sydney and the Edinburgh Breast Unit in Scotland. Patsy completed her PhD in molecular biology, specializing in genetics related to adrenocortical cancer. Her post-doctoral research has focused on microRNA profiling in cancer-associated fibroblasts and triple-negative breast cancers. Currently, she runs a breast outpatient clinic at Bankstown Hospital and teaches medical students and surgical registrars there. Her research interests include understanding patient choices in breast reconstruction and mastectomy for breast cancer, particularly among culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients. She has developed decision aids for breast reconstruction aimed at improving information dissemination and equity of access for groups such as Vietnamese and Arabic patients.
