Biography

Patti Bannister has over 25 years of experience in the archival profession, having held various positions within the Provincial Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador, including Archival Assistant, Manuscript Archivist, and Education Outreach Archivist Manager. After relocating to Nova Scotia, she became the Congregational Archivist for the Sisters of Charity in Halifax and managed archival records programs for the Congregation’s international missions. In 2013, she returned to government as the Manager of Nova Scotia Archives and currently serves as the Provincial Archivist and Director of the Nova Scotia Archives. Throughout her career, she has maintained strong ties with professional communities at both provincial and national levels, serving on committees and holding leadership positions, including Vice President and President of the Association of Newfoundland & Labrador Archives and the Council of Nova Scotia Archives. Patti is also a member of the Council of Provincial & Territorial Archivists and Chairs the Libraries, Archives, Museums Nova Scotia Steering Committee. A passionate advocate for Archival Education, she enjoys working with students as a guest lecturer and workshop instructor, and was honored with the Faculty of Management Part-Time Teaching Award in 2021.
