Biography

Paul D. Allison is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, awarded in 1976, and has extensive experience in statistical methods for social sciences. His main research focus is on improving statistical methods for causal inference using non-experimental data, with particular interests in randomized experiments and the ethical considerations of various methodologies. He is known for his work on 'fixed effects methods' that allow for the control of stable characteristics across individuals and for developing superior methods for handling missing data, such as multiple imputation and maximum likelihood approaches. Allison aims to enhance the understanding and usability of these methods within the social science community.
