Biography

Paul Altin completed his PhD in quantum atom optics at the Australian National University (ANU) in 2012, during which he held an Alexander von Humboldt fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Gravitational Physics at ANU and a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, well-known for the direct detection of gravitational waves resulting from a binary black hole merger in 2016. Additionally, Altin is a co-founder of Liquid Instruments, a start-up company based at ANU that focuses on developing innovative test measurement devices. His research interests include gravitational wave detection, cavity quantum electrodynamics, quantum optics, Bose-Einstein condensation, atom lasers, Feshbach resonances, atom interferometry, and precision measurement.
