Biography

Paul Barclay completed his Ph.D. in Applied Physics at the California Institute of Technology in 2007, where he conducted early experiments in nonlinear optics within high-Q silicon photonic crystal cavities. In 2008, he joined Hewlett Packard Labs in Palo Alto, California, contributing to the establishment of the emerging field of diamond quantum nanophotonics. After receiving his undergraduate degree in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia, where he was awarded the APEGBC Gold Medal, he started his lab at the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Calgary in 2011. Barclay has performed pioneering research in diamond photonics, spin-optomechanics, and nanophotonic quantum sensors, leading to significant recognition including the 2019 Herzberg Medal from the Canadian Association of Physicists. His lab focuses on creating technology to manipulate light at micro- and nanoscale using advanced fabrication techniques. His research interests include quantum nanophotonics, solid state quantum optics, and cavity optomechanics.
