Biography

Paul Benkeser is a professor and senior associate chair in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. He has been a member of the Georgia Tech faculty since 1985 and was a founding faculty member of the Coulter Department in 1998, where he also served as associate chair for undergraduate studies. His early research interests included therapeutic diagnostic applications of ultrasound. Upon joining the Coulter Department, he redirected his efforts towards enhancing undergraduate biomedical engineering education, focusing on integrating problem-driven learning with global experiential learning opportunities in the curriculum. His research and educational endeavors have been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Whitaker Foundation. Additionally, he is active in engineering accreditation activities with ABET since 2002, serving in various capacities including program evaluator and EAC Commissioner. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Society, and the American Society for Engineering Education, and is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
