Paul Bowker has a background in Spanish and Latin American Studies, having completed his PhD at the University of Auckland in 2010. He began his teaching career in 2004, tutoring in European Studies and holding a fixed-term lecturer position in the Spanish Program at Victoria University of Wellington before joining the Spanish and Latin American Studies Program at Monash University in June 2012. His research primarily focuses on Transatlantic Studies, specifically engaging in comparative analysis of nineteenth and twentieth-century Peninsular and Latin American literatures, exploring cultural flows between Spain and its former colonies. His work addresses themes of travel, migration, and the formation of national and transnational identities, as well as the cultural and intellectual dynamics of Spanish and Latin American interactions. Bowker is currently revising a book project examining the works of Spanish and Latin American writers in the wake of Spain's colonial decline since 1898, considering how these authors re-imagine their identities and cultures in light of transnational encounters. He also has supervision interests in Spanish and Latin American literature and culture from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century, with particular emphasis on topics related to travel and migration.
