Biography

Paul C. Brandt is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Technology Curriculum Innovation at Texas A&M University. His expertise lies in the field of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics. He completed his PhD at the University of Kentucky in 1990 and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of California. Brandt's research primarily focuses on the role of hormones as major extracellular transducers of biological signals, investigating how target cells interpret these hormonal signals. His lab concentrates on the regulation of steroid hormone-transduced signals, particularly examining calcium-dependent regulation of glucocorticoid and androgen receptor-mediated transcription. Notably, his team has determined that knockdown of the calcium pump PMCA1 leads to significantly elevated hormone-dependent transcriptional activity mediating these receptors. Other significant areas of interest in Brandt's laboratory include the development of androgen independence in prostate cancer and the involvement of PMCA1(-) cell lines in stress responses. He is actively involved in graduate training as a faculty member of the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience.
