Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Paul Branson. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Paul Branson is an adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia and a Coastal Oceanographer at CSIRO Environment. After completing his undergraduate studies in Computer Science and Ocean Systems Engineering, he worked for seven years as a consulting coastal engineer in the private sector before joining CSIRO in 2016. He possesses a wide range of professional experience in applying coastal data, numerical models, and assessing dredging, plume dispersion, extreme waves, tropical cyclones, inundation, and coastal erosion. Paul has developed Monte Carlo cyclone track systems for assessing long return interval storm tide erosion in tropical Australia and has worked on designing and constructing laboratory-scale tidal flow flumes. His PhD research focused on upwelling and shallow island wake flows, utilizing three-dimensional particle imaging velocimetry systems to obtain complete flow field velocity measurements. He has delivered detailed studies on dredging plume dispersion for large capital projects in Western Australia. Currently, Paul is engaged in researching methods to estimate waves, currents, and bathymetry using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and satellite data to inform operational oceanography and interactions with coastal ecosystems.
