Biography

Paul Brennan, born in London, UK, obtained a BSc(Eng) degree in 1984 and a PhD degree in 1988, both in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College London (UCL). He had a brief period working on agile transceivers with Plessey Military Communications before returning to UCL as a PhD student and later as a Research Fellow. Currently, he holds the position of Professor of Microwave Electronics at UCL. Brennan has published widely in the areas of radio frequency microwave electronics, antennas, and radar phase-locked loops, including the textbook 'Phase-locked loops, principles practice' published in 1996. His current research interests include MIMO and phased array radar imaging systems for geophysical applications, focusing on snow avalanches and Antarctic ice shelves. He has developed the ApRES instrument for monitoring polar ice, which is the world’s first commercially available phase-sensitive FMCW radar. In addition, his work includes volcano radar imaging and GPR applications for underground water detection. Brennan is also an active consultant and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
