Dr. Paul Buckmaster

Biography

Paul Buckmaster is a Professor in the Department of Comparative Medicine and the Department of Neurology at Stanford University. His research focuses on understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of temporal lobe epilepsy, particularly the challenges posed by refractory treatment. He employs a range of techniques including electrophysiology, molecular biology, and anatomical methods to evaluate neuronal circuitry in both normal and epileptic brains. He has held various significant advisory roles including membership on the Administrative Appointments Career Award Medical Sciences Advisory Committee for the Burroughs Wellcome Fund and has served on multiple NIH study sections. Buckmaster has received a number of honors including a Career Award from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund in Biomedical Sciences and contributions to the field of neuroplasticity and epilepsy research. He is actively involved in teaching and mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in his areas of expertise.
