Biography

Paul Durkin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Manitoba. He completed his Ph.D. in Geosciences (Sedimentary Geology) at the University of Calgary in 2016 and obtained a B.Sc. in Earth Environmental Sciences from McMaster University in 2011. His research focuses on sedimentology and paleoenvironmental reconstructions, with particular emphasis on understanding the evolution of Late Cretaceous rivers and their environmental contexts. He leads the Rivers Rocks research group, which undertakes various projects, including studying the sedimentological impact of extreme flooding on the Assiniboine River and exploring archeologically significant sites like the Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. Utilizing both classic field-based methods and innovative technologies such as Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), he aims to extract critical information from sedimentary records to address significant discoveries throughout Earth's history.
