Biography

Paul Ekins holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of London and is a Professor of Resources and Environmental Policy at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources, University College London. He served as Co-Director of the UK Energy Research Centre from 2004 to 2014 and was Deputy Director from 2014 to 2019, focusing on low-carbon futures and fossil fuel hydrogen research. Ekins has been involved with the United Nations Environment Programme's International Resource Panel and has authored significant publications on resource efficiency and mineral resource governance. His extensive experience includes consulting for businesses and governments on over 50 projects, and he has held advisory positions in various governmental and international organizations. Ekins’s notable awards include the Global 500 Award for outstanding environmental achievement from the UN Environment Programme and an OBE for his services to environmental policy.
