Biography

Paul Evans is a Professor Emeritus who retired from the University of British Columbia in June 2023 after 43 years of university teaching. He has held principal academic appointments at Acadia University, York University, and UBC, where he directed the Institute of Asian Research and held the HSBC Chair in Asian Research. He has had visiting appointments at several universities and think tanks, including Harvard University and the National University of Singapore. In addition to his academic roles, he served as Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada from 2005 to 2008. Evans is a co-founder of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific and has directed numerous research projects funded by various governments and foundations in Asia and North America. His research interests include cooperative human security and multilateral institutions, and he has published extensively, including seven books and numerous articles on topics related to Canada-China relations and Asian security dynamics.
